THE BANDS

The community bands that are a part of the Sacramento Valley Symphonic Band Association are:

Amador County Community Band
Conductor: Ernest Kapphahn

The Amador County Community Band is comprised of volunteer musicians from Amador and surrounding counties. The Band was formed on Septemebr 10, 2001, and is conducted by Ernest Kapphahn, with associate conducters Irv Gidding and Chris Tootle. The Band meets year-round on Monday nights at the Amador High School band room in Sutter Creek. There are no auditions and no one is compensated for playing or conducting.

The Band plays a Spring, a Fall, and a Christmas concert each year in addition to supporting local community events and festivals. One performance of each concert is performed for seniors at the Amador Senior Center. All performances are without admission charge. The Band is supported by donations obtained during The March on the Kitty, played at each performance. The Band plays a wide variety of music, but enjoys Broadway medleys and classic marches the most.

Auburn Concert Band *

The Auburn Concert Band is comprised of volunteer musicians representing a cross-section of Auburn and the surrounding foothills area.  The band meets on Wednesday nights from 7:00 - 9:00pm at "Health for All," 4065 Grass Valley Hwy #206 (Hwy 49), just north of Auburn. Capitol Pops Concert Band *

The CAPITOL POPS CONCERT BAND is a community band comprised of VOLLUNTEER MUSICIANS representing a cross-section of Sacramento and surrounding communities. All musicians donate their time and talent in order to play. It is a nonprofit organization. Any payments or donations received are used for purchasing new music and equipment, student scholarships, expenses for hauling music stands and large instruments, and the Conductor's salary. The ages of the Band members range from Teenagers to Senior Citizens. Band membership numbers 65 to 70 musicians. The band performs marches, patriotic music, Broadway show tunes, movie music, golden oldies, popular music, light classical and features instrumental soloists and vocalists. The band's public concerts are admision free with performances at several area Park & Recreation Districts. The concert sites include the communities of Roseville, Citrus Heights, Orangevale, Fair Oaks, Folsom, Sacramento, and Carmichael. The concert season usually begins in April with an Anniversary Concert and ends in December with a festive Winter Concert.

River City Concert Band *

The River City Concert Band is a nonprofit organization made up of approximately 40 volunteers who donate their time and musical talents to present concerts with a broad audience appeal. The band's repertoire includes orchestral transcriptions, traditional concert band literature, popular and contemporary music. It is the desire of the River City Concert Band to present band music before audiences of diverse backgrounds, foster musical interest among children, and provide performance opportunities for skilled community musicians. The River City Concert Band is fortunate to be part of the Winterstein Adult Education school of the San Juan School District as well as the sponsorship of the Sacramento Valley Symphonic Band Association for the concert performances throughout the year.

The band performs on the average of seven concerts a year.  Members of the audience may inquire about joining the band by approaching the director or any of the members of the band. The ensemble is made up of friendly people who enjoy a fun and fulfilling music making environment. Sacramento Concert Band *

The Sacramento Concert Band was founded in 1969 by Ed LaFranchi. In its fourth year, the band performed a concert on the first Sunday in June at the band shell in Carmichael Park, and has continued the tradition each year. Through the years, the band has gone through several name changes, including the Sacramento Valley Concert Band and The Sacramento Valley Symphonic Band.

2005 will mark Grant Parker's fifteenth season with the band. Through its history, the band has always performed a wide variety of music and has been known for the quality of its performances.

The Sacramento Concert Band is an adult education course of the San Juan Unified School District, which has sponsored the band since its inception. If you play or have played an instrument, we welcome you to our rehearsals, held each Monday evening at 7:15pm during the school year at Encina High School. Sacramento Symphonic Winds *

The Sacramento Symphonic Winds is a newly formed concert band under the leadership of Dr. Les Lehr. The band rehearses on Tuesday nights at El Camino High School at 7:15pm.

Membership is by invitation, recommendation, and/or audition. The band will perform all types of music from patriotic to pops, classics to rock'n roll.
